Hoboken named NJ’s “Destination of the Year”Jersey’s Best magazine handed Hoboken its 2026 Destination of the Year title last week — recognition for the waterfront, the food scene, and the walkability that residents already take for granted. Expect the tourism numbers to reflect it once the World Cup arrives. | |
City rolls out 12 days of World Cup block partiesMayor Jabbour and the Hoboken Business Alliance announced a 12-day series of “Big Match Block Parties” running across six rotating fan zones during the FIFA World Cup, starting June 13 and culminating July 19 with expanded celebrations on First Street and 14th Street. Each block party will have live match screenings, food and drinks from local businesses, and entertainment. Zones include First Street between Washington and Garden, 10th Street between Park and Washington, Grand Street under the Viaduct, 14th Street between Bloomfield and Hudson, Sinatra Drive between First and Fourth, and Adams Street between Fifth and Sixth. | |
Heads up: weekend meter hours just got longerThe City Council approved an extension of metered parking enforcement on Friday and Saturday nights — meters in the Washington Street corridor, the PATH/Terminal area, and along First and 14th Streets are now enforced until midnight instead of 9 p.m. There’s a 20-day grace period before tickets start, and residents with valid on-street permits remain exempt. Translation: if you’re heading out for Cinco de Mayo Saturday and parking on Washington, don’t assume the meter clicks off at 9 anymore. | |

The Mountaintop — Closing WeekendThu 4/30 at 7pm · Fri 5/1 at 7pm · Sat 5/2 at 3pm · Sun 5/3 at 3pm (final show) Mile Square Theatre, 1400 Clinton St Katori Hall’s Olivier-winning two-hander imagines the night before Dr. King’s assassination at the Lorraine Motel — a hotel maid, a cup of coffee, and one of the heaviest conversations in modern American theater. Pier 13 Opens for the SeasonFriday, May 1 — opens at 4pm 1301 Sinatra Drive North The waterfront beer garden is back. Food trucks announced for opening weekend so far include Amanda’s Bananas, Electric Wings, Gringos Tacos, and Lobster Trap, with the usual sangria, cold beers, and skyline views to round it out. Weather permitting — keep an eye on the forecast. | |
Uptown Farmers Market Opening DaySaturday, May 2, 9am – 1pm Under the 14th Street Viaduct, between Grand & Adams The first Saturday of May, on schedule as always. Stony Hill Farms, Cotton Cattle, Hoboken Farms, Roger’s Seafood, and the rest of the regulars are back under the Viaduct with produce, dairy, baked goods, and live music starting around 10am. Runs every Saturday through December 20. | |
Kentucky Derby Day Around TownSaturday, May 2 — post time around 6:57pm Bars all over Hoboken The Run for the Roses is showing all over Hoboken. Confirmed spots include Farside Tavern, Mulligan’s Pub on First, O’Hara’s (happy hour runs until 7pm), New Park Tavern, White Star, and the Shepherd & the Knucklehead. 1st Annual 5K for Pizza: Jersey CitySaturday, May 2 Jersey City Waterfront A flat, fast 5K along the Jersey City waterfront with a finish line that leads straight into a post-race pizza festival. Run, walk, or jog — either way, every participant gets some of the best local pizza around. Worth the PATH ride if you’re looking for an excuse to earn your slice. | |

Dutch’s Sandwich Shop86 Garden Street Hoboken’s newest sandwich spot took over the old GreekTown space in February and has been quietly building a following ever since. Owner Amir Kamal — who grew up in NYC and named the shop after his late Olde English Bulldog — runs the original location in Montclair, where the menu is loaded with chopped New York–style sandwiches, all-day breakfast, loaded fries (the Korean Zombie with gochujang beef and kimchi is the cult favorite), and sandwich names cribbed from movies and music. The Garden Street spot is small and to-go-friendly, art on the walls, close to both PATH and Washington. A good week to give it a try. | |
