Pier 13 is open. PATH fares went up Sunday. Mother's Day is this weekend. And the city just introduced a 19% tax hike — there's a lot to get through. Here's what you need to know for the week of May 7–13.

PATH fare hits $3.25 — and weekend service is finally coming back

The one-way PATH fare went up to $3.25 on Sunday, May 4 — a 25-cent jump. The bigger news: starting Saturday, May 17, direct Hoboken-to-World Trade Center weekend service returns for the first time in 25 years. Hoboken-to-33rd Street and Journal Square-to-33rd direct trains will also run every 10 minutes on weekends, with WTC trains every 20.

City Council introduces $152M budget — taxes up nearly 19%

Mayor Jabbour and the Council introduced the 2026-2027 municipal budget at $152.1M, with a 19% tax increase to close a $17M structural deficit. For the average assessed Hoboken home, that's about $130 more per quarter — roughly $520 a year. The administration says it cut the original $17M gap to $13M through spending cuts and new revenue. School and county taxes are separate (and the school side is up 23.6%).

Duo Donuts wins zoning fight — uptown matcha shop coming to 12th Street

After a five-hour zoning hearing that ran until midnight, the Hoboken Zoning Board approved Duo Donuts + Matcha to open at 205 12th Street. The two-woman team has been selling donuts in local parks and pop-ups, and now has the green light to open in the slim former architect's office. A soft opening date is still TBA.

Pier 13 is back for the season

Hoboken's waterfront beer garden reopened May 1 at 1301 Sinatra Drive North with 11 new food trucks and a fresh slate of summer programming, including FIFA watch parties and live DJ nights. Mon–Fri 4–11 PM, weekends noon–11 PM. The unofficial start of summer.

Hoboken named a Silver-level Bicycle Friendly Community

The League of American Bicyclists upgraded Hoboken from Bronze to Silver, recognizing investments in protected bike lanes (now on nearly half of city streets), Citi Bike's 2M+ rides since 2021, and the new Grand Street protected lane pilot.

Pier 13 is the closest thing Hoboken has to a backyard. Open since 2012, the seasonal outdoor spot reopened May 1 with 11 new food trucks, a beer garden, kayaking, and unobstructed views of the Manhattan skyline. New this year: FIFA watch parties for the World Cup and a live DJ series.
